Gearing Up For School: Sarah’s Weekly Newsletter

Wednesday, January 15

Lol, I just noticed that I forgot to change “December” to “January” in my last weekly newsletter. By the way, I think I like “newsletter” a bit more than “catch up;” it has a smoother ring to it. What do you think?

It’s a bit past eleven pm right now, and I’m typing this up on my computer while Duke is sleeping next to me. He’s had a very tiresome day of playing and running around; I took him up to the cemetery by our building because I know it’s a safe place for him to run off leash. We had a lovely afternoon getting some fresh air, and I’m happy I am able to spend these final days with him before I go back to school.

Getting coffee I can barely afford with Eli!

Oh yeah, I’m going back to school on Tuesday, I start classes on Wednesday, and I believe I start my internship on Thursday! It’s certainly going to be a busy week, but I’m excited to get back into the swing of things. I love going to classes and spending time with my amazing friends, but for whatever reason, I absolutely despise the room that I live in at school. That’s really the only thing I’m not excited about, in regards to going back to university. There’s something about the fluorescent lights combined with the narrow, uncomfortable bed and weird neighbors. Even though I’m surrounded by people all the time, I feel very isolated in that room. It tends to brew unhappy feelings in me, so I like to spend a lot of time out of my dorm if possible. Thankfully, this is my last semester, and I will finally be able to move out for the last time in April. And then I graduate!!!

I think I’m going to work a little bit more on next week’s articles, just to get ahead of the game, and then I’m going to take my melatonin and go to bed. I also saw Eli today, which I forgot to mention, and he made me a lovely cup of Ethipian coffee this morning, with “notes of lime and raspberry.” Eli is a coffee snob, and he knows everything about different brews and roasts and grinding techniques. Yesterday, we went into Boston and visited a couple of gorgeous coffee shops. It’s been a really grand week with him, and I’m going to miss him so much when he goes back to school on Friday. For those of you who aren’t regular readers, Eli has been my best friend for about six years, so we always try to spend a lot of time together over breaks. The next time I see him, I’ll probably be 21. It’s crazy to think about!

Thursday, January 16

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all doing well as the week begins to wind down. Today has been relaxing for me; I took my dog for a walk down at the cemetery again and we played fetch all afternoon. He’s all tuckered out now, sleeping in my bed like an absolute angel. While he’s resting, I’m getting some writing done for the blog and finishing up a profile for Analog. I should have a new article up on that site this week!

I’m going to be doing quite a bit of dog sitting this week, but luckily, it’s all in my building so I won’t have to go very far. Dog sitting is such a convenient job, especially living in an apartment building filled with animals. It’s going to be quite hard going back to school on Tuesday and not having animals around me all the time. Nonetheless, I’m looking forward to seeing my friends, and I’m sure this will be a fantastic semester. Let’s just cross our fingers and hope my insomnia doesn’t come back!
