The Semester Begins: Sarah’s Weekly Newsletter

Monday, January 20

Hi everyone! Today is my last night at home, and I’m enjoying it by watching The Bachelor with my mom and drinking some blueberry tea. We had a lovely evening together, which included dinner at IHOP and a bit of shopping at Goodwill. I didn’t need anything in particular at Goodwill, but of course, I walked away with a couple of tops and some photograph frames. I decided to use this green frame for my favorite picture of Eli and I, which I took back in 2016 by looking into a mirror. There’s something about it that makes me feel so happy and content. I also got this multi-photo frame, which I’ve filled with pictures of my family. I absolutely love physical pictures. I have tons of them at my house, dating back to when my great-grandmother was my age. The other day, I was looking at pictures of my mom when she was younger and became so inspired by her beauty. She looks like an elegant princess to me, almost like Princess Diana’s dainty beauty. So I’ve decided to grow out my eyebrows again, so that I can look a bit more like her when she was my age. She really rocked that bushy-brow look!

Reading by streetlight.

I’m back at school in what feels like the blink of an eye. My mom drove me back to school with all of my stuff, and after she left and I got settled in, I began to immediately feel unfamiliar and a bit down. I always feel a bit disoriented when I transition from one place to the next, until I am able to jump back into my routine. I’m sure I’ll start to feel back to normal by next week, when I’m deep into schoolwork and my internship! I also went back on my phone and read my first weekly newsletter, which turned out to be really useful and comforting. According to my first September entry, I was feeling the same exact sort of emptiness about transitioning back to school. So obviously it’s nothing new, and I’m sure I’ll feel better soon. I’m also a bit nervous about the sleeping situation, but I’m sure everything will be easier now that I’m back on Lexapro and my anxiety is at bay. Updates to come!

How do you guys deal with transitions? Do you also feel a bit lost and homesick for a bit?

It’s about 6pm now, so I would say my first day of college is officially over now! I have to say, I’m really excited for this semester. My professors all have a very similar energy: diplomatic, kind, and insightful. My classmates are also nice, and I’ve already exchanged a few numbers with new friends! So I would say today is definitely a success. All three of my classes today were 75 minutes each and back-to-back (starting with an 8am marketing class), so needless to say, I was exhausted by the time I left my last class. I honestly just ate a quick lunch, went back to my room, and played The Sims for a couple hours to un-fry my brain after classes, and then I somehow convinced myself to eat a salad for dinner. Now I’m at the library getting some *WordPress* work done, because I don’t really have any homework yet. Better enjoy that while it lasts!

Eyebrow update: they’re getting a bit longer by now!

Thursday, January 23

Hi everyone! The week is almost over, and for me, it absolutely flew by. Today is the first day of my internship, and it feels great to be off campus and out and about! I absolutely love my job so far. It’s very centric around social media updating and marketing, which is, of course, one of my favorite hobbies. I’m also going to be able to use WordPress and Google Analytics as part of my work responsibilities- yay! So far I’m having a great time organizing all of my work and deciding when and how to get started on my future projects. I also love the atmosphere of my workspace- it’s quiet and organized, and everybody is working on their own projects with their headphones in.

Here’s a little snippet of my walk to the train station from work.

It’s only 12:30, but I’m already all finished with my classes! I have to say, I really like getting up earlier and having more hours in the day. And, of course, it’s nice to be done with all of my classes by 12:15. Yesterday after work I went to Target and picked up a couple of things I needed, and then I went back to campus for an eboard meeting, so I didn’t really have much time to write. I’m looking forward to this weekend so that I can catch up on projects (and a bit of sleep!). Also, I’m happy to report that my sleep has been really decent while I’ve been been back at school. I usually wake up at least once in the middle of the night, but I’m able to fall back asleep really quickly. So far, this has been an amazing week. I also just received my Lisa Eldridge lipstick in the mail, so I’m looking forward to writing a review for that.

Review coming soon!
