As you can probably tell from the title, I am very happy to report that I no longer have covid! I officially stopped being contagious this past Friday, and the Massachusetts COVID-19 response team called me on Saturday morning to officially close my case. I celebrated by drinking wine, going grocery shopping with Erin, and finally having that date I’ve been pushing off for weeks. By the way, the date went well, and we’re planning on seeing each other again on Friday!
Tomorrow is my first day back at work, which is both exciting and scary. I haven’t been at work since I was infected, and I don’t know what people are going to say or how they’re going to treat me when I go back. I enjoy being a barista, but I haven’t really loved working for the Starbucks corporation as of late. I don’t feel protected or respected by the company, and I also don’t feel like my illness was taken seriously when I first reported being sick. I’ve been applying to other jobs for weeks now, but I haven’t had any luck. I’ve also been trying to sign up for a RESEA review so I don’t lose my unemployment benefits, which is adding some additional stress to my life.
In general, though, I’m doing alright. I am extremely thrilled to have my sense of smell and taste back, I’ve been feeling productive and happy, and I had a great date this past weekend. Like, we were seriously, almost nauseatingly into each other. We were texting each other “I miss you!” within an hour of being apart. Gross!
So yeah, things are fine. The unemployment will sort itself out, and until then, I have the stimulus check to float me through the month. I’m really keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll be able to find an actual “adult” job by the end of April, because I’m not sure how long I can keep up this minimum-wage Starbucks thing and crossing my fingers for an unemployment check every week. I feel like my Bachelor’s degree is laughing at me.
I’ll be sure to update you guys next week on how everything pans out!
