Good morning, everyone! I hope you’re feeling ready for the week ahead. I’m feeling pretty great right now; I’m the only one home at Nathaniel’s house because everyone is at work, so I thought I would take this opportunity to get some blogging done. He’s working from 9:30-6:00, so I’m going to have to get busy entertaining myself (which shouldn’t be a problem.)

We had a really lovely little date last night. I had this idea to set us up a little dinner on his back porch with a candle and a vase of daisies, and I put on a mellow 70s playlist for us to enjoy over our meal. We also had the most delicious pineapple margaritas I’ve ever had in my life! As you can see, I was really excited to be drinking it.

I’m going home tomorrow, and I’m so excited to tear open my pile of mail and have my new debit card. I didn’t realize how much I used it until I didn’t have one! I’m also hoping my food stamps card has arrived, because I desperately need to buy some groceries. I also have two fun packages coming in the mail: Wendelin Van Draanen has sent me copies of two of her books, and my Fab Fit Fun box is coming this week as well. I’d love to write a book review of what WVD sent me- what do you guys think?

I haven’t sat down to write in a few days, so I figured I should probably update you guys on the fun happenings in my life. On Wednesday, I had a job interview at Starbucks, and I was offered a position immediately after the interview! I was so over the moon and excited to start working on this team. Even though I was only there for about twenty minutes or so, everyone was so nice to me and made me feel immediately at home. I’m really looking forward to getting started in a couple of weeks.

The rest of my week was not too exciting. I made a new collection of journals, which are now published on my Etsy shop for sale. I also received my debit card and my food stamps card in the mail, which was awesome, because it meant I could finally go grocery shopping. In-between that, I’ve just been sleeping, playing The Sims, cleaning and doing laundry, and running errands. Yesterday, I went to the post office to ship out some orders, Star Market to get a few groceries, and then Michael’s to get some more journal-making supplies. So nothing too exciting, but I’m honestly having a great time. I’m in my best week of the month, the month in which I get super productive and energetic before PMDD hits.

I’m going on vacation on Sunday for five days, so I’m going to step away from my computer while Nathaniel and I are living it up in Maine with my mom and stepfather. I do have some articles pre-scheduled, so my content will be the same, but I probably won’t get around to my newsletter until I come home on Sunday. I’ll catch up with you all next week!

It’s unbelievable to me that I’ve already had my blog for approximately two years. I started this project not knowing what direction it would go in and if anyone would even be interested in my writing. In fact, when I first started, I sometimes wondered to myself, ‘What’s the point of this?’

Little did I know that my blog would quickly become of my favorite hobbies and pastimes, and beyond that, it’s even helped me in my professional life as well. When potential employers learn that I have operated a blog with a tri-weekly posting schedule for over two years, they’re usually impressed and interested in learning more. Not only has blogging so much improved my writing, it has also improved my knowledge of social media marketing, site analytics, graphic design, and general organization skills. For that, I’m so grateful to have WordPress as my teacher!

I never get tired of what I do. I love this site, and I love interacting with my readers! Today, I want to go through all of my stats and achievements from 2019, and share with you my goals for the future.


In 2019…

-I made 179 posts on The Diplomat’s Digest (up from just 62 posts in 2018)

-I received 101 comments, 1,361 likes, 13,533 views, and 9,801 unique visitors. 7,500 of those views were from search engines, so thanks, Google! 

-I wrote 190,766 words, up from 50,422 words in 2018. As of today, I have written 278,689 words altogether! That’s the equivalent of a 1,000 page book. 

-I started my “Weekly Newsletter” feature as a way to document my day-to-day life in an online diary form. It’s so rewarding and interesting to look back on past entries and see, in detail, what exactly was happening in my life at that exact time.


Really, the best birthday gift I can ask for in April is the gift of writing and having a platform to share my work. I love seeing my progress grow and evolve as the years go by, and I’m so excited to see how much things change by April 2021! I can’t even begin to imagine what my life is going to be like in a year. If you had told me in April 2019 that this would be the year I’d find so much love and happiness, I’m not sure I would have believed you. My goals for the future are simply to continue my adamant posting schedule and hopefully upgrade to a premium plan once I can afford it. I’m so excited to see how my content changes over the next few months and years. Thanks for sticking around and joining me for the ride!

In the two years I’ve had my blog, I’ve actually never posted a Q&A or really anything in that vicinity. I think my number one goal for a while has just been to establish a small online presence and a portfolio, and now that I have that, I can branch out a bit and do something a bit more personality-based. I have no tattoos, and I only have my ears pierced

I feel pretty good right now! I had a lot of coffee, so I’m feeling very energized and productive

My mom and I have a great relationship, but my relationship with my biological father is rocky. We tend to bounce back and forth between being on okay terms, and then not talking for months on end

What’s your favorite holiday?

I love Christmastime because the atmosphere is so cozy and wonderful. I love the music, the smells, the traditions, and being with my friends and family!

What are three things that annoy you easily?

Slow walkers, drivers who don’t use their turn signals, and rude people in general

Cows and rats!!

Do you have any pets?

I have a very chonky yellow labrador named Duke

What’s one thing you’ve lied about?

My professor asked me how I’ve been holding up in quarantine, I said everything is going great 🙂

I’m worried about finding a job, because the economy is essentially frozen at the moment

I intern remotely for a nonprofit in Boston

I gotta go to the bank to deposit some money into my savings!

What are three habits you have?

I bite my nails, I constantly have to pee, and I cannot function without a coffee every morning

What are your future goals?

I’d like to escape the corporate slavery of America and raise a family with Nathaniel on a nice, quiet farm

Grilled cheese + soup. Particularly broccoli and cheddar soup

What did you do yesterday?

Yesterday was a lazy day; I just hung out on the couch, watched Netflix, and scrolled through Pinterest

What’s something you’re talented at?

I like to think I’m a decent writer, but who’s to say? 

What’s your idea of a perfect date?

It would start with coffee in bed, going for a hike/walk on the beach, having a picnic, and end with some classic Netflix + chill

What’s your favorite blog?

I’ve been a fan of In The Flux, sapphireroses, Simply Eleanor, misswongx, and hils (the deep blue day) for a while now; we all follow each other’s blogs and I really enjoy keeping up with their stories!

How many kids do you want?

Ideally, between 1-3

Do you smoke or drink?

I’ve never smoked anything, but I occasionally drink from time to time. I’m a big fan of moscato and margaritas

And lastly, what was the last gift you gave?

So, Nathaniel and I have this big box we periodically pass back and forth with little gifts for each other. The last gift I gave him was some new stuff in the box, including some chocolate, colored pencils and a coloring book, one of my hoodies, a book, and a few other things that I can’t remember

With all of the turbulent changes happening to many of us during this time, it’s no surprise that our routines from morning to night are changing as well. I’ve actually planned on posting this article for a while now- it just so happened that the date lined up with a global pandemic. Because I am living at home currently, my schedule is quite a bit different than it was when I was living on campus. For one thing, I’m able to sleep in a little bit later! I also have more time for other things, such as workouts and doing my makeup. From start to finish, this is how a usual weekday morning goes for me.

Like many people, the first thing I do in the morning after shutting off my alarm is take a few minutes to scroll through my phone. I’m a member of several group chats that I keep muted, so the first thing I’ll usually do is flip through my messages and make sure I’m not missing any important information. I’ll also check my many emails: my regular email, my school email, and my work email, to see if there is anything crucial I need to add into my daily workload. Additionally, I like to read through theSkimm newsletter sent to my email to stay up-to-date on current events.

After catching up on socials and messages, the next thing to start my morning is a big cup of black coffee. My caffeine intake has been slowly increasing over time, and as of right now, I’m averaging about 16oz of coffee per day. The less coffee I have, the less productive and awake I’m likely to be. I also prefer a light breakfast over a super substantial one, unless it’s a weekend and I’m feeling a bit fancier. Lately, I’ve been enjoying either the soft-baked Belvita breakfast bars, or a bowl of vanilla yogurt with blueberry granola. 

I’ll either put in my contacts before my morning shower, or immediately after; either way, it’s one of the first things I do when I wake up. Putting in my contacts can also really wake me up if I’m feeling groggy- there’s nothing like sticking your fingers into your eyeballs to make you feel awake. 

At least twice a week, I like to do a quick workout to help me jump into the day and make me feel pumped and ready to get things done. I don’t like going to the gym (and even if I did, I wouldn’t leave my house right now,) so I follow exercises from a workout book called Body Boss. The workouts usually take me between 15-25 minutes, depending on how long I decide to warm up, and encompass everything from cardio to weight training.

By this time, it’s usually around 11am or so, and that’s right around when I take my morning shower. I also do my morning skincare routine, which includes cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. Right now, everything I’m using for skincare is by the brand Soap & Glory, and I’m absolutely in love with their design and packaging. I haven’t been using the brand long enough to know if the products really work, but I do really love everything this brand is about and how cute everything is!

Immediately after my shower and while my hair is still wet, I always go ahead and apply the same two products: a damage repair leave-in treatment by Aveda, and a few spritzes of the Prep Rally spray by Drybar. Bleach really takes a toll on the quality of one’s hair, and even though mine is in fairly good condition, I still like to keep it as healthy as possible. Because my hair is naturally curly, it gets quite frizzy if I brush it while it’s still wet. Using a couple of high-quality products on the daily helps me to keep my hair and check and maintain a salon-smooth silkiness.

Lastly, depending on what my agenda for the day is, I’ll either go completely bare-faced or put on a full face of makeup (there is no in-between.) I don’t put on makeup with the intention of going anywhere; I just genuinely love the relaxing process of putting on makeup, and I feel really good about myself when I have it on. Even though it’s just a little thing, it really brightens up my day and even boosts my productivity and my creativity.

By this time, it’s usually around noon and the morning is over! The next line of action is just for me to start my work for the day! Like I said, my routine would be very different if I was still at school and going to physical classes every day. I can assure you that I definitely would not be working out twice a week, or spending so much time doing my makeup. However, even though the times are strange right now, I am making do with my circumstances and trying to live my best life. With the end of the year coming to a close, I decided it was time to revisit the resolutions I set for myself at the end of 2018. Here is a quick report of how I did:


-Write a book about my life. ✘ I actually started, but I never ended up finishing it. Maybe next year… 

-Have fifty followers on WordPress. ✔ I was genuinely shocked at how quickly I surpassed fifty. It was a goal for the entire year, but the number went over fifty within the first month of writing this. In total, I currently have 208 followers.

-Have 100 followers on my Diplomat’s Digest Instagram page. ✔ I reached 100 in November!

-Dye my hair a new color; maybe teal again!  ✔ I did that! I got my hair dyed teal in mid March, and I absolutely love it. Right now, it’s blonde.

-Get my driver’s license. ✘ Nope, not this year, but definitely the next!

-Host a collaboration on my blog. ✔ Check! Got that done in January, actually. As of right now, I have completed two collaborations for the entire year.

-Host a giveaway on my blog (!) ✘ Not quite yet, but hopefully soon!

-Figure out how to properly use wet-set foam rollers. ✘ I kind of cut off all my hair…

-Buy an authentic 1940s dress. ✘ Nope, I saved my money. See my last resolution 😉 

-Learn how to knit something besides a scarf. ✔ Does a dish cloth count?

-Go to bed and wake up a little bit earlier every day. This could be tricky, as I am a notorious night owl… ✔ I surprisingly did this. I usually get into bed between 8pm-9pm, and I’m asleep before 10 if I take a unisom and a melatonin pill. 

-Learn how to manage my money better. I struggle with this big time. Do you guys have any tips for managing money? ✔ I saved $1,000 over the summer, so I’d consider that successful finance management! 


Looking back, I’m pretty happy with the progress I made on my resolutions this year! 7/12 certainly isn’t bad. I noticed while looking back at my list that many of these goals were materialistic based, and I’d like to change that going forward. For 2020, I’d like to focus more on personal milestones, such as maintaining my happiness and continuing to spread gratitude. My 2020 resolutions will be published on January 1, so keep your eyes out for that!

 

Happy December, everybody! In celebration of Christmastime, I’ve decided to start an annual Blogmas tradition. For the entire month, every article I post will be holiday-related in some capacity. Per usual, I will still be posting my weekly catch-ups, but those won’t count towards the twelve days of Blogmas. While most of these posts are centric to Christmas, I would still like to be inclusive to those who do not celebrate Christmas but still want to enjoy my content. With that in mind, some of these articles are simply winter recipe guides, winter-themed makeup looks, and moodboards that everybody can enjoy, regardless of what you celebrate!

IMG_4590.jpgIt’s finally here: the one-year anniversary since I started my personal blog! And so, without being too sappy, I just want to say thank you to everyone who reads my articles and leaves nice comments for me. I’ve always been a writer, but I never really shared my work online until I started The Diplomat’s Digest. It’s been a really rewarding experience for me, and additionally, it keeps me motivated to keep writing and trying to inspire people.

I have never been an eloquent speaker, or an athlete, or a genius, or a prodigy of anything. The only thing that I have ever truly identified with is being a writer- and it’s something I take pride in as a part of my identity. I have struggled with anxiety and bullying throughout my life, and writing has always been my way of coping, and my therapy. When you’ve lived your entire life feeling like people don’t listen to you, being a successful writer is such a rewarding experience!

I don’t know what the definition of a “successful writer” is, but I think I’m on the right track. My goal is to eventually support myself as a freelance writer, and work from home, but I know it’s going to take a long way to get there. I’m going to continue to work hard on my blog, and eventually (in the near future), I’d like to expand my media presence into other areas. Like I said, I’m not a great speaker and I’m not too good in front of the camera, but I’d like to try YouTube!

Lastly, I’ve been thinking about potentially holding a giveaway on my blog. I mentioned it in my New Year Resolutions post, and now seems like the right time to actually pursue it. What do you guys think? And what kind of things would you like me to give a way?

So, now that I’ve gotten all that mushy stuff out of the way, let’s take a look at how much my blog has grown over the course of 365 days!

It may not seem like much, and it’s really not, but it’s better than nothing. Thank you again for being so sweet and lovely, for reading my posts, and inspiring me to keep writing. Blogging is a key part of what keeps me going, and I can’t wait to see how my style evolves!

Hello all! For my final post of 2018, I decided it would be a lovely idea to compile a list of of my 2019 resolutions and aspirations. I don’t want to sound like I’m tooting my own horn, but I am genuinely so happy with how much I have grown and developed emotionally this past year. I really was a total mess last year around this time; coping with my first year of college, dealing with a toxic roommate, and being cheated on my a former boyfriend a day before finals week. I didn’t put any effort into my appearance, I struggled with making friends, and I pretty much had abandoned all of my favorite hobbies. Around March or April of this year, I experienced a complete 180° and turned my entire life around. I started getting into crystals and metaphysical healing, I began exploring vintage fashion, and in mid-April…I started my blog! 2018 has truly been the year of complete renovation, and I wouldn’t change a thing about it. Happy New Year!
